On Bad Teaching

A good companion piece to the Ravitch article is this review essay. It may be that the author exaggerates the problem somewhat, buying into the crisis mentality unnecessarily, but there's at least a grain of truth to the critique of teacher training:. http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2014/dec/04/why-american-teaching-so-bad/?insrc=hpma

The title, which asserts outright that American teaching is "so bad" and the crisis language, the obligatory swipe at teachers unions, etc kinda poisoned the article for me.
